August 31 is your last chance to catch a blue moon until 2015. Oh no! So now before you trip over your own feet, allow me the pleasure of being the one to burst your bubble (like mine was) and tell you that a “blue moon” is not actually blue. Instead, the scientific explanation for a blue moon is the rare occurrence where two full moons occur within a particular month.
Now, dry you eyes. If you’re looking for something to do tomorrow night, turn your head to the sky and catch a blue moon while listening to Billie Holiday and drinking an “adult beverage” of the same name.
National Geographic has the whole shebang covered, head over if you’d like to find out more.
