APRIL 25 THRU 27 — Wynwood District

Wynwood  Art District, located in Miami, will present its inaugural Wynwood Life Festival. Organizers expect thousands of people over the course of the three-day event. Top area vendors and artists, many of whom have been in some of Miami’s most respected graffiti crews, have signed up to be a part of this event, which will offer art, crafts, jewelry, fashion and food. Trek6, the celebrated artist who has become synonymous with the area one wall at a time, will commemorate the festival by designing and painting the inaugural poster and wall.

The opening headline act is Baloji, a Congolese-Belgian hip-hop phenom Baloji & L’Orchestre De La Katuba presented by Miami Dade College’s (MDC) MDC Live Arts, Friday, April 25. He delivers a fresh, new sound – where the lyrical edge of hip-hop’s pioneers meets Congolese rumba and ’60s soul.

Baloji, whose name means “sorcerer” in Swahili, rhymes in an intensely personal way. Fusing funk and ragga with the urban sounds of his Congo homeland, he’s been labeled as one of the most innovative rappers ever to emerge from Africa. From U2’s Bono popping up in his performance at Coachella to his recent performance at New York’s Lincoln Center, Baloji is a global force to be reckoned with.
