OCT. 11 — Miami Dade County Fair and Exposition
Columbus Day weekend in South Florida is synonymous with carnival season. Now in its 31st year, carnival lovers have been gearing up for Miami Broward Carnival, an annual tradition full of culinary delights indigenous to the Caribbean, melodious sounds of steel bands, and colorful and elaborate masquerade costumes.
Headlining this year’s event is Trinidad’s “Queen of Bacchanal” Destra Garcia and the Bakanal Band. Also performing live: Patrice Roberts, Claudette Peters, Lyrical, Ricardo Drue, Rudy, Xplosion Band, Dil-e-Nadan, Fadda Fox, Snakey, Menace, Laurena Davis, Julian Believe, Lyrikal, MC Wassy, and MC-Da Mighty Pencil.
The gates open at 11 a.m. and the parade starts at noon. This year’s parade of masqueraders includes over 20 mas bands that have been working year-round on their portrayals and costume designs.
With over 20,000 guests in attendance last year, make sure to refer to the Miami Broward Carnival Traffic Guide for accessible entrances and exits as well as parking.

The list of bands competing for the coveted title of 2015 Miami Broward Carnival Steel Band of the Year includes: Silvers Stars USA Steel Orchestra, Sticks “N” Tones, Karibbean Knights, Pantastic Steel, Tamboo Bamboo, Resurrection Steel. Reigning Panorama Band of the Year, Pantastik, looks to keep their coveted title at this year’s competition.
