It’s back! The annual pass promo to Miami Seaquarium is back. From Jan. 28 through Feb. 29, 2012 Florida Residents who buy one regular admission to will receive the whole year for FREE. This allows guests to visit Miami Seaquarium as often as they wish through December 31, 2012 for the price of a one day admission.

The Free Annual Pass , which has no blackout dates, includes admission the popular events such as Easter Egg Hunts and Monster Splash Halloween Bash. It also provides discounts on Miami Seaquarium education and camp programs, Dolphin Interaction programs at Dolphin Harbor, park merchandise and more. Pass holders also receive a 20% discount on general admission to other South Florida attractions.

General admission to Miami Seaquarium is $39.95 and $29.95 for children (ages 3-9). Purchase online and save $2 per ticket.

Explore the history of the cocktail and the role of bars & taverns in America on January 15 from 6-8pm at Clarke’s in Miami Beach. Join award-winning mixologist and author Dale DeGroff for an evening of music, stories, and cocktails from his forty years of working and carousing them.

Accompanied by renowned jazz guitarist Joel Perry, DeGroff takes us on a journey through Prohibition and into modern times, revealing the colorful history of the cocktail and the antics and music that drove this amazing cultural phenomenon.

Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door and include drinks and light hors d’oeuvres. All proceeds form ticket sales benefit The Museum of the American Cocktail.

While Christmas is one of the biggest annual events in North America & Europe, Japan on the other hand, celebrates Oshogatsu, the start of the new year. The holiday, observed the first three days in January, is a time traditionally spent as a family, when homes are cleansed & purified before the year’s end then decorated with pine, bamboo, sacred straw chains, and oval shaped rice cakes.

Celebrate the year of the Dragon at the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens on January 8th. The day’s activities will feature games and entertainment throughout the museum and gardens such as:

Sado tea ceremony
Kakizome, experience hands-on the first calligraphy of the new year
Omikuju, Japanese fortune telling
Mochitsuki, the pounding of rice and making of mochi, auspicious Japanese cakes
Shishimai, meet the lion dancer as he brings in the New Year to the beat of the taiko drum!
Hanetsuki, similar to badminton
Fukuwarai, the Goddess of Happiness game
Daruma Otoshi, wood block game
Hands-on craft activities & bounce-houses

B.B King, born September 16, 1925 as Riley B. King in Itta Bena, Mississippi, is hailed as the “King of Blues”! His career started in the 1940s, with his first hit “Three O’ Clock Blues” in 1951. To date, he has released over fifty albums, many of them classics.

About ”Lucille”: His beloved guitar earned her name after a brawl in Twists, Arkansas involving two men over one woman. In the process, a kerosene stove was knocked over, setting the room on fire. Everyone ran out and upon noticing that he’d left his guitar, B.B. King ran back in to retrieve it. So, when he discovered the name of the lady who incinsed the men so, he named the guitar after her… to remind him never to fight over a woman.

He’ll perform live at the Kravis Center (West Palm Beach) on January 2nd. Tickets start at $25.

He’ll also perform at the Adrienne Arsht Center (Miami) on January 4th. Tickets start at $49

The South Florida Fair presents the 1st Annual 5K Run/Walk at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, FL on December 31, 2011. Race starts at 7:45 a.m.

Every participant will receive a FREE Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday admission ticket to the 2012 South Florida Fair, finisher’s medal, t-shirt, goodie bag, bib number, and refreshments.

Cocktail Recipe: Fig Margarita

Figs, one of the oldest fruits known to man, originated in Asia minor and were brought over to America in 1520. In its cooked state, they’ve been used as a sweetener, a practice continued to this day in Northern Africa as well as the Middle East. The recipe below is for the signature cocktail from Cut 432, a modern steakhouse & wine bar in Delray Beach.

FIG MARGARITA
2 ounces Corazon Reposado tequila
1 tablespoon fig jam
1 ounce agave nectar
1 ounce lime juice
1 whole fig

Shake all liquid ingredients and strain over fresh ice. Garnish with fig.

DEALS: During Cut 432’s Social Hour (5 to 7 p.m. daily), a few handcrafted cocktails are $5, craft beer and house spirits are $4, and house wine is $3. The lineup of $5 snacks includes truffle cheese fries, giant onion rings, deviled eggs and mini burgers.
