Supposedly invented in 1938 by Walter Bergeron, the head bartender at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans, it’s named after the French term for what’s called “The French Quarter” … le Vieux Carré (“Old Square”)



  • 3/4 oz Rye whiskey
  • 3/4 oz Cognac
  • 3/4 oz Noilly Prat Rouge Vermouth
  • 1 tsp Bénédictine
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Add all the ingredients to a rocks glass. Fill with ice and stir.
