It’s reported that the hibiscus flower has several health benefits including the ability to lower blood pressure, cholesterol, strengthening the immune system amongst other things. While I can’t guarantee that the below cocktail, as conjured up by Echo Mixologist Charles Steadman will give you any of these perks, it’s food for thought. See below for happy hour specials.
A little history: The Hibiscus flower has been grown for centuries around the Indian & Pacific rim. The term is believed to have been derived from the Greek word “hibiskos”, given by Greek physician Dioscorides in the 1st century to the marshmallow plant, a close relative.
1½ ounces Herradura Silver Tequila
1½ ounces orange juice
¾ ounce lime juice
1¼ ounces hibiscus syrup
Hibiscus flower for garnish
Combine all ingredients, except hibiscus syrup, in a mixing tin with ice. Shake and strain into a highball glass over ice. Sink hibiscus syrup to bottom of glass and garnish with the flower. Stir drink to make it “blush.”
Half priced cocktails from 5:30 to 7 p.m. weekdays in the bar, and from 10:30 p.m. to midnight Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
