Composed of Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmermann, Zim&Zou creates handcrafted installations using materials such as paper, wood, thread, leather. They create all the elements by hand, from drawing to cutting and assembling
This installation tells the story of a fox who moved into the window with all his personal objects, showing a bit of his life and personality. The leather fox is living in a human interior composed with furnitures all made of paper, giving a surrealistic aspect to the scene.
The concept was inspired by a Museum of Natural History, melted with a Cabinet of Curiosities. The windows, handmade with paper and leather, are an invitation to wander. Passersby were suddenly walking through the corridors of a mysterious Museum, straight from the street. The themes were inspired by nature, the two main windows were about Air and Water, and the two smaller ones about Earth.
The French NGO Ecofolio, who works to show the benefits of recycling, asked the agency June21 to promote this idea in a national print campaign. Then, they asked us to create a sculpture made out of recycled papers to replace the wasted ones. We thought that the Phoenix was a perfect mythological animal to symbolize that paper can have up to 5 lives thanks to recycling.
